RESUMEN

Osteomyelitis is a devastating disease caused by microbial infection in deep bone tissue. Its high recurrence rate and impaired restoration of bone deficiencies are major challenges in treatment. Microbes have evolved numerous mechanisms to effectively evade host intrinsic and adaptive immune attacks to persistently localize in the host, such as drug-resistant bacteria, biofilms, persister cells, intracellular bacteria, and small colony variants (SCVs). Moreover, microbial-mediated dysregulation of the bone immune microenvironment impedes the bone regeneration process, leading to impaired bone defect repair. Despite advances in surgical strategies and drug applications for the treatment of bone infections within the last decade, challenges remain in clinical management. The development and application of tissue engineering materials have provided new strategies for the treatment of bone infections, but a comprehensive review of their research progress is lacking. This review discusses the critical pathogenic mechanisms of microbes in the skeletal system and their immunomodulatory effects on bone regeneration, and highlights the prospects and challenges for the application of tissue engineering technologies in the treatment of bone infections. It will inform the development and translation of antimicrobial and bone repair tissue engineering materials for the management of bone infections.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Sulfur dioxide (SO2) is a significant gas signaling molecule in organisms, and viscosity is a crucial parameter of the cellular microenvironment. They are both involved in regulating many physiological processes in the human body. However, abnormalities in SO2 and viscosity levels are associated with various diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, lung cancer, respiratory diseases, neurological disorders, diabetes and Alzheimer's disease. Hence, it is essential to explore novel and efficient fluorescent probes for simultaneously monitoring SO2 and viscosity in organisms. RESULTS: We selected quinolinium salt with good stability, high fluorescence intensity, good solubility and low cytotoxicity as the fluorophore and developed a highly sensitive ratiometric probe QQD to identify SO2 and viscosity changes based on Förster resonance energy transfer/twisted intramolecular charge transfer (FRET/TICT) mechanism. Excitingly, compared with other probes for SO2 detection, QQD not only identified HSO3-/SO32- with a large Stokes shift (218 nm), low detection limit (1.87 µM), good selectivity, high energy transfer efficiency (92 %) and wide recognition range (1.87-200 µM), but also identified viscosity with a 26-fold fluorescence enhancement and good linearity. Crucially, QQD was applied to detect HSO3-/SO32- and viscosity in actual water and food samples. In addition, QQD had low toxicity and good photostability for imaging HSO3-/SO32- and viscosity in cells. These results confirmed the feasibility and reliability of QQD for HSO3-/SO32- and viscosity imaging and environmental detection. SIGNIFICANCE: We reported a unique ratiometric probe QQD for detecting HSO3-/SO32- and viscosity based on the quinolinium skeleton. In addition to detecting HSO3-/SO32- and viscosity change in actual water and food samples, QQD could also monitor the variations of HSO3-/SO32- and viscosity in cells, which provided an experimental basis for further exploration of the role of SO2 derivatives and viscosity in biological systems.

RESUMEN

This systematic review aimed to compare the influence of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) on the efficacy and safety of elderly patients with type 2 diabetes and younger individuals. A comprehensive search of PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases was conducted up to September 2022. The summary standard means difference and odds ratios were calculated. Thirteen articles were included in the analysis. The incidence of adverse events (AEs) leading to discontinuation was higher in elderly patients (OR = 0.67, 95% CI 0.47 to 0.96, p = 0.028). However, no significant differences were observed in weight loss (SMD = 0.03, 95% CI -0.12 to 0.19, p = 0.686), HbA1c% (SMD = -0.02, 95% CI -0.11 to 0.08, p = 0.715), FBG levels (SMD = -0.03, 95% CI -0.11 to 0.06, p = 0.537), and the incidence of overall AEs (OR = 0.85, 95% CI 0.71 to 1.01, p = 0.072), serious AEs (OR = 0.68, 95% CI 0.45 to 1.04, p = 0.077), nausea (OR = 0.91, 95% CI 0.81 to 1.03, p = 0.140), vomiting (OR = 0.95, 95% CI 0.79 to 1.13, p = 0.532), diarrhea (OR = 0.86, 95% CI 0.72 to 1.02, p = 0.081), and hypoglycemia (OR = 1.22, 95% CI 0.90 to 1.65, p = 0.193). In conclusion, while certain AEs leading to discontinuation may be more prevalent in older patients, GLP-1RAs are effective for weight loss and lead to decreased glucose concentrations with a low rate of complications in elderly patients.

RESUMEN

Humans are ubiquitously exposed to environmental endocrine disrupting chemicals such as phthalates. Phthalates can migrate out of products and enter the human body through ingestion, inhalation, or dermal application, can have potential estrogenic/antiestrogenic and/or androgenic/antiandrogenic activity, and are involved in many diseases. As a female reproductive organ that is regulated by hormones such as estrogen, progesterone and androgen, the uterus can develop several disorders such as leiomyoma, endometriosis and abnormal bleeding. In this review, we summarize the hormone-like activities of phthalates, in vitro studies of endometrial cells exposed to phthalates, epigenetic modifications in the uterus induced by phthalate exposure, and associations between phthalate exposure and uterine disorders such as leiomyoma and endometriosis. Moreover, we also discuss the current research gaps in understanding the relationship between phthalate exposure and uterine disorders.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the hospitalised patients with uterine fibroids (UFs) and describe treatment patterns in hospital-treated patients in central China from 2018 to 2021. DESIGN: A retrospective analysis. SETTING: The gynaecology departments of class A and class B secondary and tertiary hospitals in Hubei Province, China. PARTICIPANTS: 101 008 patients diagnosed with UFs from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2021. RESULTS: The hospitalised patients with UFs increased with age, reaching a peak at ages 45-49 years and then gradually decreasing. Among these patients, 19.05% had anaemia symptoms. Women aged 25-29 years were more likely to be treated with laparoscopic myomectomy (62.22%), while women aged 20-24 years tend to choose open myomectomy (34.58%). Women over age 45 years who had entered perimenopause tended to be treated with laparoscopic hysterectomy (64.85% for those aged 65-69 years). Patients with fibroid with moderate-to-severe anaemia mostly chose hysterectomy. As a whole, the proportion of patients who chose laparoscopic hysterectomy was similar to that of patients who chose laparoscopic myomectomy (31.38% vs 31.14%). Only 2.08% of UFs were treated with high-frequency MRI-guided focused ultrasound surgery (MRgFUS). The number of patients who choose laparoscopic surgery or MRgFUS treatment was increasing year by year. After stratifying by hospital grade, we found that women treated at class A tertiary hospitals were more likely to have laparoscopic than open surgery (66.12% vs 31.26%). At class B secondary hospitals, 61.9% of the patients underwent myomectomy. By contrast, hysterectomy was used to treat the majority of patients at class A secondary hospitals and class B tertiary hospitals (57.79% and 57.57%, respectively). Use of MRgFUS was mainly concentrated within class A tertiary hospitals. CONCLUSION: UFs affect mainly women in childbearing period. Most patients chose to receive treatment at class A tertiary hospitals, among which laparoscopic myomectomy was the mainstream surgical method for patients in Hubei Province. RESUMEN

Disentangling the impact of aging on health and disease has become critical as population aging progresses rapidly. Studying aging at the molecular level is complicated by the diverse aging profiles and dynamics. However, the examination of cellular states within aging tissues in situ is hampered by the lack of high-resolution spatial data. Emerging spatial omics technologies facilitate molecular and spatial analysis of tissues, providing direct access to precise information on various functional regions and serving as a favorable tool for unraveling the heterogeneity of aging. In this review, we summarize the recent advances in spatial omics application in multi-organ aging research, which has enhanced the understanding of aging mechanisms from multiple standpoints. We also discuss the main challenges in spatial omics research to date, the opportunities for further developing the technology, and the potential applications of spatial omics in aging and aging-related diseases.

RESUMEN

The endometrium is a unique human tissue with an extraordinary ability to undergo a hormone-regulated cycle encompassing shedding, bleeding, scarless repair, and regeneration throughout the female reproductive cycle. The cyclical repair and regeneration of the endometrium manifest as changes in endometrial epithelialization, glandular regeneration, and vascularization. The mechanisms encompass inflammation, coagulation, and fibrinolytic system balance. However, specific conditions such as endometriosis or TCRA treatment can disrupt the process of cyclical endometrial repair and regeneration. There is uncertainty about traditional clinical treatments' efficacy and side effects, and finding new therapeutic interventions is essential. Researchers have made substantial progress in the perspective of regenerative medicine toward maintaining cyclical endometrial repair and regeneration in recent years. Such progress encompasses the integration of biomaterials, tissue-engineered scaffolds, stem cell therapies, and 3D printing. This review analyzes the mechanisms, diseases, and interventions associated with cyclical endometrial repair and regeneration. The review discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the regenerative interventions currently employed in clinical practice. Additionally, it highlights the significant advantages of regenerative medicine in this domain. Finally, we review stem cells and biologics among the available interventions in regenerative medicine, providing insights into future therapeutic strategies.

RESUMEN

The clinical challenge of bone defects in the craniomaxillofacial region, which can lead to significant physiological dysfunction and psychological distress, persists due to the complex and unique anatomy of craniomaxillofacial bones. These critical-sized defects require the use of bone grafts or substitutes for effective reconstruction. However, current biomaterials and methods have specific limitations in meeting the clinical demands for structural reinforcement, mechanical support, exceptional biological performance, and aesthetically pleasing reconstruction of the facial structure. These drawbacks have led to a growing need for novel materials and technologies. The growing development of 3D printing can offer significant advantages to address these issues, as demonstrated by the fabrication of patient-specific bioactive constructs with controlled structural design for complex bone defects in medical applications using this technology. Poly (ether ether ketone) (PEEK), among a number of materials used, is gaining recognition as a feasible substitute for a customized structure that closely resembles natural bone. It has proven to be an excellent, conformable, and 3D-printable material with the potential to replace traditional autografts and titanium implants. However, its biological inertness poses certain limitations. Therefore, this review summarizes the distinctive features of craniomaxillofacial bones and current methods for bone reconstruction, and then focuses on the increasingly applied 3D printed PEEK constructs in this field and an update on the advanced modifications for improved mechanical properties, biological performance, and antibacterial capacity. Exploring the potential of 3D printed PEEK is expected to lead to more cost-effective, biocompatible, and personalized treatment of craniomaxillofacial bone defects in clinical applications.

RESUMEN

Desired orthopedic implant materials must have a good biological activity and possess appropriate mechanical property that correspond to those of human bone. Although polyetheretherketone (PEEK) has displayed a promising application prospect in musculoskeletal and dentistry reconstruction thanks to its non-biodegradability and good biocompatibility in the body, the poor osseointegration and insufficient mechanical strength have significantly limited its application in the repair of load-bearing bones and surgical operations. In this study, carbon nanotubes (CNT)/calcium silicate (CS)/polyetheretherketone ternary composites were fabricated for the first time. The addition of CS was mainly aimed at improving biological activities and surface hydrophilicity, but it inevitably compromised the mechanical strength of PEEK. CNT can reinforce the composites even when brittle CS was introduced and further upgraded the biocompatibility of PEEK. The CNT/CS/PEEK composites exhibited higher mechanical strengths in tensile and bending tests, 64% and 90% higher than those of brittle CS/PEEK binary composites. Besides, after incorporation of CNT and CS into PEEK, the hydrophilicity, surface roughness and ability to induce apatite-layer deposition were significantly enhanced. More importantly, the adhesion, proliferation, and osteogenic differentiation of mouse embryo osteoblasts were effectively promoted on CNT/CS/PEEK composites. In contrast to PEEK, these composites exhibited a more satisfactory biocompatibility and osteoinductive activity. Overall, these results demonstrate that ternary CNT/CS/PEEK composites have the potential to serve as a feasible substitute to conventional metal alloys in musculoskeletal regeneration and orthopedic implantation.

RESUMEN

In recent years, hydrogels have been widely used in the biomedical field as materials with excellent bionic structures and biological properties. Among them, the excellent comprehensive properties of natural polymer hydrogels represented by sodium alginate have attracted the great attention of researchers. At the same time, by physically blending sodium alginate with other materials, the problems of poor cell adhesion and mechanical properties of sodium alginate hydrogels were directly improved without chemical modification of sodium alginate. The composite blending of multiple materials can also improve the functionality of sodium alginate hydrogels, and the prepared composite hydrogel also has a larger application field. In addition, based on the adjustable viscosity of sodium alginate-based hydrogels, sodium alginate-based hydrogels can be loaded with cells to prepare biological ink, and the scaffold can be printed out by 3D printing technology for the repair of bone defects. This paper first summarizes the improvement of the properties of sodium alginate and other materials after physical blending. Then, it summarizes the application progress of sodium alginate-based hydrogel scaffolds for bone tissue repair based on 3D printing technology in recent years. Moreover, we provide relevant opinions and comments to provide a theoretical basis for follow-up research.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Local excision as the main alternative for fertility-sparing surgery (FSS) has been widely used in patients with early-stage cervical cancer to achieve fertility preservation, but its safety and practicability are still questioned. Therefore, The authors evaluated the current application of local excision in early-stage cervical cancer with this population-based study and compared its efficacy with hysterectomy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Women diagnosed with International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage I cervical cancer at childbearing age (18-49 years) recorded in the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database from 2000 to 2017 were included. Overall survival (OS) and disease-specific survival (DSS) rates were compared between local excision and hysterectomy. RESULTS: A total of 18 519 patients of reproductive age with cervical cancer were included, and 2268 deaths were observed. 17.0% of patients underwent FSS via local excision, and 70.1% underwent hysterectomy. Among patients younger than 39 years, OS and DSS of local excision were comparable to those of hysterectomy, whereas, in patients older than 40 years, OS and DSS of local excision were significantly worse than those of hysterectomy. In addition, OS and DSS of local excision were similar to hysterectomy in patients with stage IA cervical cancer, but OS and DSS were inferior to hysterectomy in patients with stage IB cervical cancer who underwent local excision. CONCLUSION: For patients without fertility requirements, hysterectomy remains the best therapeutic option. However, for patients under 40 years of age diagnosed with stage IA cervical cancer, FSS via local excision is a viable option that can achieve a well-balanced outcome between tumour control and fertility preservation.

RESUMEN

This study concerns energetics of formation and the stability in high water partial pressure of BaLnCo2O6-δ, (Ln = La, Pr, Nd, and Gd) (BLnC) and BaGd1-xLaxCo2O6-δ, where x = 0.2, 0.5, and 0.7 (BGLC) double perovskite cobaltites. Those materials are extensively studied due to their potential applications as a positrode in electrochemical devices. Therefore, their stability under such conditions is a key issue. All investigated materials are thermodynamically stable relative to binary oxides and exhibit strongly exothermic enthalpies of formation. Moreover, BaGd0.3La0.7Co2O6-δ and BaGd0.8La0.2Co2O6-δ remain the main perovskite structure up to 3 bars of water vapor at 400 °C. At higher steam pressure, reaching 10 bar at 300 °C, the partial decomposition to constituent oxides and hydroxides was observed. The BGLC compounds exhibit higher negative formation enthalpies in comparison to single-Ln compositions, which does not translate into higher chemical stability under high steam pressures since the BLnC series retained the main perovskite structure at higher temperatures as well as in higher water vapor pressures.

RESUMEN

The thermodynamic stability of rare earth (RE) materials plays a key role in the design of separation and recycling processes for RE elements. Thermodynamic stability is fundamentally influenced by the lanthanide contraction, as observed in the systematic reduction of unit cell volumes with increasing atomic number. RE materials are found in the form of solids having primary bonds in three dimensions (3D materials) as well as ones with primary bonds in two dimensions (2D materials) whose layers are held together by weak van der Waals (vdW) forces. While studies of synthesis, structure, and physical properties of 2D RE materials are numerous, no systematic research has compared their thermodynamic stability to that of 3D materials. In the present work, RE oxychlorides (REOCls), which display a structural transition from a 3D-polyhedral network (PbFCl-type) to a vdW-bonded layered one (SmSI-type) as the RE size decreases, were all synthesized by the flux method. High-temperature oxide melt solution calorimetry was used to determine their formation enthalpies to enable Born-Haber cycles to calculate lattice energies. Our results indicate that REOCl compounds are thermodynamically stable when compared to their binary oxides and chlorides. The lattice energies of 3D REOCls increase with decreasing RE size yet are insensitive to unit cell volumes for 2D REOCls. This is caused by interatomic interactions parallel and perpendicular to layers in the SmSI-type REOCls, causing a different structure response to the lanthanide contraction than 3D RE materials.

RESUMEN

Objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis was performed to compare the effect of sodium-glucose cotransporter protein-2 inhibitors (SGLT-2i) and placebo on left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) in patients with type 2 diabetes. Method: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing the LVH parameters of SGLT-2i to placebo in patients with type 2 diabetes were included. Our primary outcomes were the changes in left ventricular mass (LVM) and left ventricular mass index (LVMI) from baseline to the study endpoint. Secondary outcomes were the changes in left ventricular end-diastolic volume (LVEDV), left ventricular end-systolic volume (LVESV), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), and the ratio of early mitral inflow velocity to atrial inflow velocity (E/A). Summary odds ratios were estimated using a fixed-effect or random-effect model. Results: A total of 11 articles were included. Data were extracted from 11 original studies matching our inclusion criteria. In our meta-analysis, there were significant improvement in LVM (SMD -0.23, 95% CI -0.44 to -0.02, I 2 = 22.6%, p = 0.034), LVMI (SMD -0.25, 95% CI -0.38 to -0.12, I 2 = 0.0%, p = 0.000), LVEDV (SMD -0.19, 95% CI -0.36 to -0.01, I 2 = 62.3%, p = 0.035), and LVESV (SMD -0.21, 95% CI -0.39 to -0.04, I 2 = 32.9%, p = 0.017) in the SGLT-2i group compared with the placebo group. Furthermore, no significant differences were found in LVEF (SMD 0.13, 95% CI 0.00 to 0.26, I 2 = 0.0%, p = 0.050) and E/A (SMD -0.01, 95% CI -0.22 to 0.20, I 2 = 0%, p = 0.908) between the two groups. Conclusions: This meta-analysis confirmed the beneficial effects of SGLT-2i on reversal of left ventricular remodeling. The LVH regression was more pronounced in studies of type 2 diabetes patients receiving SGLT-2i than placebo.

RESUMEN

Objective: This meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of prophylactic central neck dissection (PCND) in patients with clinically node-negative (cN0) papillary thyroid carcinoma. Materials and methods: A meta-analysis of the literature was performed using the key words "papillary thyroid carcinomas" and "lymph node ecisions" for searches of electronic databases. Complications such as transient hypocalcemia, permanent hypocalcemia, transient and permanent hypoparathyroidism, transient and permanent vocal cord paralysis, transient recurrent and permanent recurrent laryngeal nerve injury, and local recurrence were pooled by meta-analysis. Stata17.0 was used to carry out the meta-analysis. Results: Data were extracted from 15 studies. In the present review, the group of patients who had total thyroidectomy (TT) with PCND had a lower local recurrence than the group with TT alone (OR 0.22, 95% CI 0.10-0.45, P = 0.000), whereas the incidence of permanent hypocalcemia (OR 4.24, 95% CI 1.05-17.22, P = 0.043) and transient hypoparathyroidism (OR 2.14, 95% CI 1.34-3.42, P =0.001) were higher. No significant differences were recorded in the incidence of other complications: transient hypocalcemia (OR 2.24, 95% CI 0.77-6.51, P = 0.138), permanent hypoparathyroidism (OR 1.70, 95% CI 0.89-3.27, P = 0.111), transient vocal cord paralysis (OR 1.48, 95% CI 0.78-2.83, P = 0.231), permanent vocal cord paralysis (OR 1.44, 95% CI 0.53-3.94, P = 0.477), transient recurrent laryngeal nerve injury (OR 1.47, 95% CI 0.93-2.32, P = 0.102) and permanent recurrent laryngeal nerve injury (OR 1.24, 95% CI 0.56-2.74, P = 0.587) between the two groups. Conclusion: Compared with TT alone, TT with PCND was more effective in reducing local recurrence without increasing the risk of recurrent laryngeal nerve, thyroid and vocal cord, except for hypocalcemia and transient hypoparathyroidism. Therefore, we believe that TT with PCND should be recommended for patients with cN0 PTC. Systematic review registration: https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/, identifier CRD4202 2355078.

RESUMEN

The 3D hollow hierarchical architectures tend to be designed for inhibiting stack of MXene flakes to obtain satisfactory lightweight, high-efficient and broadband absorbers. Herein, the hollow NiCo compound@MXene networks were prepared by etching the ZIF 67 template and subsequently anchoring the Ti3C2Tx nanosheets through electrostatic self-assembly. The electromagnetic parameters and microwave absorption property can be distinctly or slightly regulated by adjusting the filler loading and decoration of Ti3C2Tx nanoflakes. Based on the synergistic effects of multi-components and special well-constructed structure, NiCo layered double hydroxides@Ti3C2Tx (LDHT-9) absorber remarkably achieves unexpected effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 6.72 GHz with a thickness of 2.10 mm, covering the entire Ku-band. After calcination, transition metal oxide@Ti3C2Tx (TMOT-21) absorber near the percolation threshold possesses minimum reflection loss (RLmin) value of - 67.22 dB at 1.70 mm within a filler loading of only 5 wt%. This work enlightens a simple strategy for constructing MXene-based composites to achieve high-efficient microwave absorbents with lightweight and tunable EAB.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Biosynthesis of L-tert-leucine (L-tle), a significant pharmaceutical intermediate, by a cofactor regeneration system friendly and efficiently is a worthful goal all the time. The cofactor regeneration system of leucine dehydrogenase (LeuDH) and glucose dehydrogenase (GDH) has showed great coupling catalytic efficiency in the synthesis of L-tle, however the multi-enzyme complex of GDH and LeuDH has never been constructed successfully. RESULTS: In this work, a novel fusion enzyme (GDH-R3-LeuDH) for the efficient biosynthesis of L-tle was constructed by the fusion of LeuDH and GDH mediated with a rigid peptide linker. Compared with the free enzymes, both the environmental tolerance and thermal stability of GDH-R3-LeuDH had a great improved since the fusion structure. The fusion structure also accelerated the cofactor regeneration rate and maintained the enzyme activity, so the productivity and yield of L-tle by GDH-R3-LeuDH was all enhanced by twofold. Finally, the space-time yield of L-tle catalyzing by GDH-R3-LeuDH whole cells could achieve 2136 g/L/day in a 200 mL scale system under the optimal catalysis conditions (pH 9.0, 30 °C, 0.4 mM of NAD+ and 500 mM of a substrate including trimethylpyruvic acid and glucose). CONCLUSIONS: It is the first report about the fusion of GDH and LeuDH as the multi-enzyme complex to synthesize L-tle and reach the highest space-time yield up to now. These results demonstrated the great potential of the GDH-R3-LeuDH fusion enzyme for the efficient biosynthesis of L-tle.

RESUMEN

The incorporation of functional building blocks to construct functionalized and highly porous covalent triazine frameworks (CTFs) is essential to the emerging adsorptive-involved field. Herein, a series of amide functionalized CTFs (CTF-PO71) have been synthesized using a bottom-up strategy in which pigment PO71 with an amide group is employed as a monomer under ionothermal conditions with ZnCl2 as the solvent and catalyst. The pore structure can be controlled by the amount of ZnCl2 to monomer ratio. Benefitting from the highly porous structure and amide functionalities, CTF-PO71, as a sulfur cathode host, simultaneously demonstrates physical confinement and chemical anchoring of sulfur species, thus leading to superior capacity, cycling stability, and rate capability in comparison to unfunctionalized CTF. Meanwhile, as an adsorbent of organic dye molecules, CTF-PO71 was demonstrated to exhibit strong chemical interactions with dye molecules, facilitating adsorption kinetics and thereby promoting the adsorption rate and capacity. Furthermore, the dynamic adsorption experiments of organic dyes from solutions showed selectivity/priority of CTF-PO71s for specific dye molecules.

RESUMEN

Bi2Fe4O9(BFO) nanocubes were prepared in proportion using a simple and easy hydrothermal method, and were then assembled on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) multilayered sheets. The excellent microwave absorption properties of Bi2Fe4O9/rGO nanohybrids were achieved by properly adjusting the impedance matching and getting a high attenuation capability contributed from different ratios of the BFO and rGO. A minimum reflection loss value of -61.5 dB at 12.8 GHz was obtained with a Bi2Fe4O9/rGO ratio of 2:1, and the broadest bandwidth below -10 dB was up to 5.0 GHz (from 10.8 to 15.8 GHz) with a thickness of 2.4 mm. Additionally, the elementary mechanism of wave absorption performance is also investigated.

RESUMEN

The aligned one-dimensional channels found in covalent organic frameworks offer a unique space for energy storage. However, physical isolation of sulfur in the channels is not sufficient to prevent the shuttle of lithium-sulfide intermediates that eventually results in a poor performance of lithium-sulfur energy storage. Herein, we report a strategy based on imine-linked frameworks for addressing this shuttle issue by covalently engineering polysulfide chains on the pore walls. The imine linkages can trigger the polymerization of sulfur to form polysulfide chains and anchor them on the channel walls. The immobilized polysulfide chains suppress the shuttle effect and are highly redox active. This structural evolution induces multifold positive effects on energy storage and achieves improved capacity, sulfur accessibility, rate capability and cycle stability. Our results suggest a porous platform achieved by pore wall engineering for tackling key issues in energy storage.
